With smartphones, apps and the online world available at everyone’s fingertips, BBC Three’s new horror series Red Rose explores how they can affect people’s lives in the most terrifying way.
The eight-part original horror series sees a group of friends on summer break after GCSEs balancing their real-life issues alongside the ones they live online. The teens’ summer is interrupted with the introduction of the sinister Red Rose app – a supernatural entity that affects friendships with its demands growing to new heights with every message.
On the fringes of her group of friends, Rochelle Jackson downloads the mysterious app, naively inviting darkness into her life.
What she sets in motion is a series of events that take the town by storm, and bring the friends together to battle the unseen forces of a seemingly supernatural entity.
Red Rose is ultimately a story of friendship, told through the classic horror-thriller genre.
Alongside Isis Hainsworth, the show stars Amelia Clarkson, known for playing Rosina in Poldark, The School of Good and Evil’s Ali Khan, Ellis Howard, from HBO’s Catherine the Great and Sex Education’s Ashna Rabheru.
The full series of Red Rose is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer and will premiere tonight at 9pm on BBC Three.
